Synopsis:
Its been about a month now since any measurable snow. June Mountain (down south) has closed for the season, and the storm door has failed to show any signs of being even close to allow the 20 foot storm we require. Desperation? Maybe. There’s still plenty of quality to be had. First tracks on steep groomers in a hoodie is hard to beat under the Californian bluebird. Add to that, some north facing chutes littered with mid-winter-firm-pack, you’ve got yourself an entire day planned.
If you’re in CA, and think its not going to be worth it to go skiing…check this report. Every resort in Tahoe has its gems….here’s a photo-essay of what Kirkwood has to offer.

Nice views of the mountainous terrain behind for some possible day touring…some more snow would help that. And what’s this white stuff that suddenly appears WHEN I REACH THE SUMMIT????
